FOURAKER CHARGED WITH CROSSING STATE LINES WITH INTENT TO SEXUALLY MOLEST A 9-YEAR OLD GIRL

September 20, 2005

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

David E. Nahmias, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia, and Gregory Jones, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation, announce that a federal grand jury has returned a child exploitation indictment against RON FOURAKER, age 54, of Conover, North Carolina. According to Mr. Nahmias and the documents and information presented in court:

The indictment charges that between August 19, 2005, and August 23, 2005, FOURAKER used a computer in an attempt to induce a person under the age of 18 to engage in sexual activity, and crossed state lines with the intent to engage in a sexual act with a person under the age of 12. Specifically, beginning on or about August 19, 2005, FOURAKER communicated on-line with “Jane,” a person whom he believed had a 9-year old daughter named “Mary.” FOURAKER, using the screen name “ron2u2000,” told “Jane” that he wanted to engage in sexual acts with “Mary.” FOURAKER arranged to meet “Jane” and “Mary” and on August 23, 2005, he traveled to Atlanta from North Carolina for the purpose of sexually molesting “Mary.” Law enforcement agents arrested FOURAKER at a restaurant parking lot shortly after he arrived in the Atlanta area. “Jane” was in fact a name used by an undercover FBI Agent working as part of the FBI’s Safe Child Task Force. The 9-year old girl referred to as “Mary” was fictitious and never existed.

Members of the public are reminded that the indictment contains only allegations. A defendant is presumed innocent of the charges and it will be the government's burden to prove a defendant's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.

The case is being investigated by Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Assistant United States Attorney J. Elizabeth McBath is prosecuting the case.
