          On the Deaths of Three USDA/APHIS Employees 
                   In Inglewood, California 
                         April 23, 1998


     On behalf of President Clinton, Vice President Gore and the over 90,000
employees of the Department of Agriculture, I wish to extend my deepest
sympathies to the families, friends, and co-workers affected by this sad and
troubling incident.  

     The USDA is a large, extended family.  We must all come together with
our thoughts and our prayers to offer support and comfort to the grieving
members of our family in this difficult time.
