U.S. Assists New Schooland dormitory

On February 27, 2006, NAS Director Clifford D. Henizer attended a signing ceremony between the Japanese Government and the Lao Government for the construction of a primary school and dormitory in the Lao-American Project Phongsaly. The agreement was signed between the Japanese Charge, Mr. Mamoru Shinohara and the Chief of Bountai District, Mr. Singthong Somsorsor.
The construction of the school and dormitory will take place in the Munchinampok village, one of the Lao-American Project target villages. The total grant amount provided by the Japanese government for the construction of the school and dormitory is US$13,460.
The U.S. Government, through NAS Vientiane over the past 4 years, has provided to Munchinampok village alternative development support in the form of construction of a village meeting hall, public latrines, cattle and rice banks, a revolving medicine fund, green tea cultivation, handicraft income generation, non-formal education and women's literacy programs. The total value of assistance is estimated at $30,000.
