Space Use Information: Residence Hall/Dormitory

Below are the descriptions of the data entry fields for the residence hall/dormitory space type:

 

Space Name

An identifying name for the portion of the facility that you are defining (for example, Main Office, Third Floor Conference Area, East Wing, etc.).

 

The residence hall/dormitory space type is intended to define facility space which offer multiple accommodations for long-term residents associated with educational institutions or military facilities.  Floor area for all supporting functions, such as food facilities, laundry facilities, exercise rooms, lobbies, elevator shafts, stairways, etc., should be included in the total square footage.

 

Air Conditioned Percentage

This is the percentage of the total floor space within the facility that is served by mechanical cooling equipment.

 

Heating Percentage

This is the percentage of the total floor space within the facility that is served by mechanical heating equipment.

 

Gross Floor Area

Total floor area, expressed in square feet or square meters, for a given space within a facility. The total of all residence hall/dormitory spaces must include the floor area for all supporting functions, such as lobbies, stairways, rest rooms, storage areas, elevator shafts, etc., in the facility.

 

NOTE: The floor area of all Computer Data Center space(s) cannot exceed 10% of the Facility’s gross floor area (not including Garages and Parking Lots).

 

Number of Rooms

The total number of lodging rooms available within a given residence hall/dormitory building, including occupied rooms, non-occupied rooms, rooms in the process of being renovated, and permanent house use.  

 

On average there are 2.5 lodging rooms per 1,000 square feet of gross building floor area.  Thus, a 100,000 square foot residence hall/dormitory building, for example, contains 250 rooms on average.
