Patrick Leahy Chief Geologist Subject: New Program Coordinators and Chief Scientists I am extremely pleased to be able to report to you the names of our new Program Coordinators and Chief Scientists. Though our list is not yet entirely complete, I felt it important to inform you of the selections that have been made to date. The individuals selected for these positions are an outstanding group of accomplished scientists. Whether working individually within teams and offices or together through program and regional councils, it is my belief that this group has the necessary skills and capabilities to ably lead our Division into the 21st Century. Our goal is to make most of the new assignments effective within the next few weeks. Some of the selections involve change of headquarters; though these individuals may not be completely relocated for some months, they will assume their new duties prior to moving. I would like to thank all of you who expressed an interest in these rotational management positions. Though not all of you could be selected, your interest and willingness to participate in the leadership process of the Division is greatly appreciated. I would also like to thank all of you who participated on the panels that evaluated the candidates. Your careful deliberations and valuable recommendations provided a solid basis upon which to make final selections. In conclusion, I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to the acting Program Coordinators and Chief Scientists who, over the past several months, worked with diligence and steadfast character during the travail of the RIF and the transition to the new Division organization. Their jobs were certainly not easy and we are grateful for their dedicated service and leadership. I look forward now to working with the new management team to build a more outstanding and forward-looking scientific organization of which we can all be proud.
