Mississippi Ag Report Volume 01-10 Released: May 16, 2001 This report is best viewed with a monospace font. Featured Statistics: Upland Cotton, Cotton Ginnings Population by County, Population Largest Counties US Metropolitan Population, Hay Stocks Wheat Survey Procedures Farm operator surveys were conducted between April 24 and May 1 to gather information on expected yield as of May 1. The farm operator survey included a sample of producers representing all major production areas. These producers were selected from an earlier acreage survey and were asked about the probable winter wheat acres for harvest and yield on their operation. These growers will be surveyed throughout the growing season to provide indications of average yields as the season progresses. Grower reported data is then reviewed for reasonableness and consistency with historical estimates. The survey data is also reviewed considering weather patterns and crop progress compared to previous months and previous years. Each State Statistical Office submits their analysis of the current situation to the Agricultural Statistics Board (ASB). The ASB uses the survey data and the State analyses to prepare the published May 1 forecasts. The first 2 pages inside this report have the final 2000 cotton numbers. Included are the final numbers for cottonseed, cotton production, and cotton ginning.
