Congressman Crenshaw Visits Florida Wildfire Site

May 15, 2007

(Lake City, FL) – Congressman Ander Crenshaw today issued the following statement regarding his visit to the Deep Creek Volunteer Fire Department to be briefed on the Bugaboo Fire:

“To date, the Bugaboo Fire has devastated thousands of acres in North Florida.  Despite this tragic situation, the around the clock efforts of hundreds of firefighters and emergency personnel have prevented the Bugaboo Fire from devastating even more private and public land. Their efforts have saved lives and prevented greater property losses.  They are true heroes.

“As a result of the hard work of these men and women, I received some encouraging news this morning – the wildfire is now 50 percent contained.  Nevertheless, weather conditions throughout the day will continue to make the blaze difficult to extinguish.  Emergency personnel are continuing to fight to further contain the fire.

“Once this wildfire is extinguished, I will work with local, state and federal officials to ensure that the affected areas receive the federal resources they need for the recovery.  Whether fighting the fire or contributing to the relief effort, we are a team and together we will overcome this tragedy.”
