QUALITY ASSESSMENT OF SEA LEVEL DATA by the UH SEA LEVEL CENTER/NATIONAL OCEANOGRAPHIC DATA CENTER JOINT ARCHIVE FOR SEA LEVEL updated: 01 Oct 2001 Station : Ko Taphao Noi (Phuket) Latitude: 07 49.9N Country : Thailand Longitude: 098 25.5E JASL # : 148A Time Meridian: 105E (GMT + 7 hr) GLOSS # : 042 TOGA #: I031 NODC #: 10097801 Contributor : Naval Hydrographic Dept. Trans. : No Distribution : 1985-2000 Refernce Levl: All heights have been referred to the station tide staff zero which is linked to fixed bench marks. However, analysis of residuals and comparisons with neighboring stations in West Malaysia have warranted the adjustment of the original data by +10 cm from 12Z 18 Nov - 23Z 31 Dec 1987. This adjustment has an uncertainty of a few cm. Comment : Reference level uncertainties of about 10 cm exist as seen from hourly residual and daily plots; the level jumps are short-lived (weeks to a few months) and tend to return to a mean level. It is possible that these are natural signals; however, the user is urged to use caution. The originators have not found any supportive information in the station calibration notes to identify a cause for the level jumps. The most noteworthy of these jumps are PERIOD LEVEL JUMP (cm) 19 Jul 1989 - 01 Aug 1989 -12 01 Nov 1990 - 01 Jul 1991 -7 01 Dec 1993 - 19 Mar 1994 10 19 Mar 1994 - 17 May 1994 -7 30 Nov 1996 - 20 Jan 1997 15 CI MISSING REPLACED GAPS QUESTIONABLE YEAR (%) DATA OR BAD DATA FLUCTUATIONS ---- --- -------------------- --------------- -------------------- 1985 100 none none none 1986 100 none none 363-365 1987 99 365 none 133-137,160-164,168- 169,263-264,266-270, 277-284 1988 75 1-91,306-307 none 142,298,350-351 1989 99 none (00)133-(17)133 none (03)134-(16)134 1990 100 none (16)077-(15)078 none 1991 100 none none none 1992 99 126-128 (09)067-(21)067 none 1993 100 none (01)184-(12)184 93-94,156-158 1994 100 none none 82-87,321-322 1995 100 none (17)273-(16)274 none 1996 100 none (06)097-(14)097 none (17)265-(02)266 1997 100 none none 96-102,173,263 1998 100 none (08)262-(18)262 104,281-282,291-294, (03)278-(01)279 306-309 (05)333-(16)333 1999 100 none (12)019-(00)020 2-3,78-82,89-90,107- (12)055-(20)055 108,162-167,196-197, (15)120-(01)121 266-270 (17)121-(00)122 (07)334-(01)335 2000 99 365 (23)021-(09)022 68-69,77-79,109-112, (17)059-(16)060 153-158 (22)177-(15)178 (01)244-(00)245
