Activitnes:

Ringing of adults and chicks on certain colonies with PVC flipper
bands with alphanumeric codes for individual recognition. Measurement
and weighing of banded individuals.Sexing by discriminant analysis of
measurements derived from data of individuals of known sex (determined
during copulation).Collection of basic reproduction data from several
colonies ( weight and size of eggs, breeding phenology, level of
hatching asynchronism, etc.).Collection of blood samples from breeding
and moulting adults and young and from adults kept in pens during
fasting experiments and subsequent biochemical analysis of
blood. Measurement of energy expenditure of adults during the creche
stage by doubly-labeled water techniques (stable isotopes D2 and
18O).Detailed behavioural of parent-chick interactions in creches with
banded individuals.

Esta ficha contiene informacion sobre:
-Estudio de la estrategia reproductiva de Pygoscelis antarctica.
-Estudio del parentesco genetico entre adultos y pollos bajo su
tutela.
-Estudio de las variaciones circadianas de parB7metros bioquCmicos
sanguineos y durante ayuno obligado y voluntario.
-Determinacion de la asincronia en el crecimiento de pollos
hermanos y la condicion fCsica de sus padres.
-Estudio del gasto energetico.
-Estudio etologico de defensa del nido y de las interacciones entre
adultos reproductores y sus pollos.

Actividades realizadas:

Anillamiento de adultos y pollos en ciertas colonias con anillas de
aleta de PVC con codigos individuales para seguimiento de
individuos. Medicion y pesado de los individuos anillados. Sexado
mediante anlisis discriminante efectuado con datos procedentes de
individuos de sexo conocido (determinado durante las copulas).Toma de
datos de reproduccion en varios ncleos de la colonia (peso y medida de
huevos, fechas de eclosion, grado de asincronCa de eclosion, etc.).Se
han realizado extracciones de sangre de adultos reproductores, adultos
y jovenes en muda y adultos mantenidos en jaula durante experimentos
de ayuno, para su anlisis bioquimico. Medida del gasto energetico de
individuos reproductores por medio del metodo del agua doblemente
marcada (con isotopos estables de hidrogeno y oxigeno, concretamente
deuterio y oxigeno 18). Observaciones del comportamiento de las
interacciones entre los padres anillados y pollos en las guarderCas.
