Hollings Scholarship
The NOAA Hollings scholarship program is designed to (1) increase undergraduate training in oceanic and atmospheric science, research, technology, and education and foster multidisciplinary training opportunities; (2) increase public understanding and support for stewardship of the ocean and atmosphere and improve environmental literacy; (3) recruit and prepare students for public service careers with NOAA and other natural resource and science agencies at the Federal, state and local levels of government; and (4) recruit and prepare students for careers as teachers and educators in oceanic and atmospheric science and to improve scientific and environmental education in the United States.
Disney's Little Mermaid Promotes Ocean Awareness
The Ad Council joins three leading environmental groups, including the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation in an unprecedented partnership to promote ocean awareness. Disney's Princess Ariel of the Little Mermaid will help raise awareness among Americans about the health of the oceans and the impact of human actions on the ocean ecosystem.

There are many ways to get involved with the National Marine Sanctuaries - volunteer opportunities, advisory council involvement, NOAA jobs and being a steward for the oceans are all great ways.
Channel Islands Naturalist Corps
Become specially trained volunteer ocean stewards dedicated to educating passengers onboard vessels visiting the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary and National Park.
Beach COMBERS in Monterey Bay
A beach monitoring study, utilizing volunteers to sample selected sections of beach for dead marine birds and mammals.
Team OCEAN: Monterey Bay
A seasonal Kayak outreach project that provides face-to-face interpretation.
Team OCEAN: Florida Keys
On-the-water education and information program aimed at protecting the natural marine resources of the Florida Keys.
Monterey Bay Sanctuary Education Panel
This ad-hoc committee meets bi-monthly reviewing program proposals, advising on educational priorities and assisting in implementation of programs to increase understanding and stewardship of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.

Coastal Discovery Center Volunteer
The Coastal Discovery Center at San Simeon Bay is located at beautiful and historic Hearst State Beach, the theme of the facility is "Connecting Land and Sea." Visitors to the Coastal Discovery Center learn about local natural and cultural resources, take a video voyage to the deep sea, watch live rainbow trout, and listen to a talking tidepool. Educational programs for school groups and adults are in development, as is a website and finance committee. Share your knowledge, experience and enthusiasm by becoming a docent!
Protect Humpback Whales in Hawai`i
In an effort to protect humpback whales and promote safe boating practices the sanctuary has launched a special Ocean Etiquette campaign.
