August is a great time to get a good look at all the exciting programs. There will be model rocket launches, daily tours, a video about the early days of flight, and a presentation about Goddard's Spartan and Ulysses program. If you are looking for something special this summer, come out to the Visitor Center and enjoy the special August programs. The Goddard Space Flight Center Visitor Center, open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., is located in Greenbelt, Md., on Soil Conservation Road. All events are free. The following are brief descriptions for inclusion in your calendar of events: Sunday, Aug. 6 and 20, at 1 p.m. MODEL ROCKET LAUNCH Need a good place to bring friends or family on vacation? Come to the model rocket launch at the Visitor Center! People from all over the country will be there, enjoying the launches and Visitor Center exhibits. Any rocket enthusiasts in your group will enjoy the variety of rockets at the Visitor Center's model rocket launch. Bring a rocket if you have one, or just enjoy the show! All launches are monitored for safety and are held weather permitting. Saturday, Aug. 12, 1 p.m. SATURDAY VIDEOS: "Flying Machines" The Visitor Center will show a video called "Flying Machines" that takes a look at some of the most progressive aeronautics of the century. This program explores the history of the development of flight, the aeronautics part of NASA. This pioneering work by early aviators paved the way for manned and unmanned space flight and research. This video is approximately 30 minutes long and is suitable for all ages. Sunday, Aug. 27, 1 p.m. DISCOVER GODDARD PRESENTATION: "Spartan and Ulysses: A Journey to the Heliosphere" Spartan, a project that works with the Space Shuttle to permit short-duration, free-flight opportunities for a variety of scientific studies, is the topic of this month's presentation. Dr. Richard Fisher, of the Laboratory for Astronomy and Solar Physics, will talk about this valuable program at the Visitor Center. -30-
