USDA BUYS:  WHOLE EGGS; ENDS PROGRAM

     The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Marketing
Service (AMS) today purchased 256,000 pounds of whole eggs – to
be produced from about 6,000 cases of shell eggs -- at a cost of
approximately $172,000 for school lunch and other domestic food
nutrition assistance programs.  Details of today's purchase
follow:

     It was also announced that the purchase program for whole
