Abstract:Designed for classroom use, the booklet is a collection of the easiest-to-use classroom ideas taken from past issues of the "Daybreak Star Indian Reader," published monthly throughout the school year by the United Indians of All Tribes Foundation. The selection of articles and activities focus primarily on Plains and Northwest Indian cultures, making the booklet especially helpful as a resource for supplemental information when studying these regions. The readability and activity levels of this collection range between grades 4-8. Presented in five sections (general information, legends, crafts and activities, games, and food), activities include crossword puzzles, seek-and-find word puzzles, dod-to-dot pictures, hidden pictures, food recipes, and Indian games. Subjects of articles include origins of Indian names, respect for nature, the cycle of life, transportation aids, oral tradition, and craft activities, such as beadwork and dough art. (ERB)
