Dearest Lil- -

[illegible] It's {3 P.M.} now & we've been on the go all the time--even at the moment we're being kept busy but I'll try to write a few words in the hope this can be mailed tonight. More will follow. Actually, I wrote a card to you this morning before the train pulled in--yet I couldn't find a chance to mail it.

Everything has been hectic, starting, of course, with the train ride--there was no sleeper & no reclining seats. The train was dirty & full of smoke. I managed to catch a few winks--would doze off for 15 mts., wake up, doze off a little later & so on. The other fellows had the same experience.
