Preparation of Fine Particle Emission Inventories
Many government agencies (federal, state, local, tribal) and private organizations conduct training in the preparation of emission inventories. This training can cover a number of topics, including the calculation and compilation of point, stationary nonpoint, and mobile source emission estimates and data quality checking.
One topic currently experiencing a high demand for training is preparation of fine particulate matter (PM) emission inventories. The purpose of these training materials is to provide government and nongovernment agencies with an organized set of presentation slides and manuals to support such training in a classroom style setting.
This course focuses on the principal stationary nonpoint and nonroad mobile source categories emitting PM fine particles. [Training concerning onroad mobile source emission inventories is available from EPA's Office of Transportation and Air Quality.] For select categories, this course provides a brief summary of how emissions are estimated for EPA's National Emission Inventory (NEI), and how state/local/tribal agencies can improve upon those estimates. Case studies are used to provide real-world examples of how state or local agencies can collect data to prepare inventories that are an improvement to the NEI methods. It also identifies locations of on-line resources to facilitate improvements to PM fine inventories. This course assumes that participants have a working knowledge of emission inventory terminology and techniques; thus it does not cover material on basic inventory development.
While this course has been designed for the classroom and is designated as a classroom course on this web site, this course is not currently scheduled to be offered by APTI training providers. The course materials are provided here for use by state, local, and tribal governments who may wish to conduct such training.
