CPSC, Jumpking Inc. Announce Recall of Chrome Dumbbells
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announces
the following recall in voluntary cooperation with the firm below. Consumers
should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of product: Reebok and NordicTrack Chrome Dumbbells
Units: About 1.2 million
Manufacturer: Coaster Co. of America, Santa Fe Springs, Calif.
Importer: Jumpking Inc., of Mesquite, Texas
Hazard: Because they do not fit together properly, the weights can fall
off the handles of these dumbbells and strike the user.
Incidents/Injuries: Jumpking has received nine reports of weights
falling off handles including five consumers who received injuries such
as bruising, a broken nose, and a broken toe.
Description: The chrome dumbbells weigh between 2 and 50 pounds and have
the Reebok or NordicTrack trademark name on the outside of the bells
along with the weight of the dumbbell.
Sold at: Gart Sports, Sears, Target and other retail stores who carry
sporting good products nationwide from June 2000 through May 14, 2004
for between $4 and $45.
Manufactured in: China
Remedy: Consumers should examine their dumbbells to make sure the
weights on both ends are tightly secured to the handle. If they are
loose, contact Jumpking to obtain instructions on how to receive the
free repair kit.
