Going to Direct Beam from Focused (12BM):

(You do not need to move the mirror)

1. Select "Scaler" from the horizontal toolbar at the top of the screen. This opens the pie chart in the high right corner of the screen showing the intensities measured in the first and second ion chambers in the hutch (Ion1 and Ion2)

2. Select "Mostab" from the horizontal toolbar at the top of the screen. Put Mostab in manual mode as shown in the low right corner of the screen. This puts the feedback system in standby mode.

3. Close the station-open shutter (shown in the low left corner of the screen).

4. Mount a fluorescence screen at the height of the first ion chamber in the experimental hutch. Make sure it is visible with the wall camera (the monitor is outside the hutch) , then remove the ion chamber.

5. Select "Motor Tool" from the horizontal toolbar at the top of the screen. You can have maximum 6 motor windows opened at the same time.

6. From the "Motors" drop down menus chose following motors:
 "FOE slits top";
 "FOE slits bottom";
 "End-station slits top";.
 "End-station slits bottom";
 "End-station slits left";
 "End-station slits right".

7. Select the "Tweak" tab and tweak all of them by +5. This opens the Front Optics Encloser (FOE) and End Station Slits. You should see the direct beam below the reflected beam on the fluorescence screen.

8. Close the "End-station slits" (tweak negative) to the desired direct beam size.

9.Mount back the ion chambers in front of the fluorescence screen.

10. Tweak the motor "Sample table user all vertical" to move the table down until the height is correct for the ion chambers to measure the intensity of the direct beam.

11. Use the "Current Amplifier Tool" (under the Scaler pie chart on the screen) to increase the sensitivity so the Ion1 reading is within the 10-50% range.

12. Put the Mostab in "Peak Search & Track SetPoint" mode with SetPoint from +-0.75 to +-0.9 (the white field currently set at +0.85 on the screen.). This puts the feedback system in active mode. The Mostab should keep the Ion1 intensity constant at the requested fraction of the maximum intensity at the peak of the rocking curve. Do not use the "Peak Hold Mode" since there is no harmonic rejection from the mirrors in direct beam mode.

13. If you need to change the energy , follow the "Changing Energy on 12BM" procedure.
