1998                  Doctor of Philosophy, Physics, Institute of Physics, Maria Curie Sklodowska University, Lublin, Poland.

 

Degree covers theoretical and experimental aspects of electron emission and surface physics of metals, especially problems associated with thermionic emission and work function as well as selected physical properties of hot filaments in vacuum, with applications to mass spectrometry and electron emitters. Thesis title “Investigation of electron emission from metallic surface by pulsed heating”.

 

 

1992   Master of Science, Experimental Physics, Institute of Physics, Maria Curie Sklodowska University, Lublin, Poland.

 

Degree covers fundamental experimental physics with special emphasis on mass spectrometry applications in measurements of stable isotope ratios. Thesis title : “Investigations of oxygen isotopic composition of rock-forming minerals”.  Work included sampling, chemical extraction and measurement of isotope ratios as well as construction of both mechanical parts and electronics of mass spectrometers and vacuum systems.

Director’s Funded Postdoctoral Fellow at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, MST-10 Group, Los Alamos, USA.

Experimental solid state physics. Photoelectron spectroscopy and electronic structure of actinides, especially plutonium and uranium, including compounds. Investigating the new family of superconducting heavy fermion materials by photoemission methods. Theoretical and experimental aspects of surface properties of  actinides and lanthanides. Synchrotrons and plasma light sources.

Visiting Professor at the University of New Mexico, Department of Earth and planetary Sciences, Albuquerque, USA.

Applications of modern stable isotope techniques (IRMS, IRMMS, TC-EA, GC) to terrestrial and extraterrestrial materials, namely cherts, carbonates, silicates, meteorites and dinosaur tooth enamel.
