Cadet Kevin Anderson earns SSA Silver Badge

Walton, GA--Cadet Kevin Anderson recently earned the Soaring Society of America's (SSA) Silver Badge.

There are three requirements for the Silver Badge: a flight duration of five hours after tow release, an altitude gain of 1000 meters (3,281 feet) after tow release, and a cross country flight of at least 50 kilometers (31.1 miles).

Cadet Kevin Anderson was recently promoted to C/SMSGT.

In April, Anderson satisfied the first requirement when he broke his own previous record of 3.5 hours with a record setting flight of 5.3 hours.

During the same flight, cadet Anderson achieved an altitude gain to nearly 6,000 feet above ground level (AGL) which satisfied the second requirement.

On 23 July, Anderson completed a long cross-country flight from Gainsville, Georgia to Monroe, Georgia to finish the Silver Badge requirements.

CAP regulations don't allow cross country flights in their gliders, so Anderson made his cross-country flight in a Schweizer 1-34 owned by the Monroe Georgia Soaring Association.

Beyond the SSA's Silver Badge is Gold Badge and the coveted Diamond Badge. Each badge is progressively more demanding and requires dedication and discipline to achieve.
