• Studies of groundwater flow and transport in saturated and unsaturated settings.

• Application of geochemistry and hydrology to address contaminant transport

• Tectonics of the western Cordillera

RECENT EMPLOYMENT HISTORY

Technical Staff Member - Los Alamos National Laboratory, 5/99 - present.   Geologic, geochemical, and hydrologic studies of groundwater flow and contaminant transport with emphasis on behavior of natural tracers and actinides in the environment.   Typically supervise or co-supervise 1-3 technicians and/or students who assist in this work.   Projects include:

•  Principal Investigator: Tracer studies to evaluate vadose and saturated zone flow and transport at the Vadose Zone Research Park, INEEL

•  Principal Investigator: Isotopic and geochemical investigations of groundwater flow, contaminant transport in the saturated and unsaturated zones at the INEEL

•  Co-Principal Investigator (with Paul Reimus):   Alluvial Testing Complex (ATC), tracer tests to study flow and transport in saturated valley-fill deposits at Yucca Mountain

•  Co-Author (with Edward Kwicklis):   Yucca Mountain Analysis and Models Report on Hydrochemistry of Staurated Zone, Yucca Mountain and Vicinity

•  Investigator: Rapid separations of actinides from geologic media (DTRA-DNEA project)

Postdoctoral Research Associate - Los Alamos National Laboratory, Chemical Science and Technology, 1/97 - 5/99.   Laboratory and field study utilizing uranium-series isotopes to characterize groundwater movement and migration of solutes in the Snake River Plain aquifer.

Project Editor - Holt, Rinehart and Winston, Austin TX, 7/96-8/96.   Author, coeditor and co-producer of one-hour video disc to accompany new edition of 10 th -grade-level textbook in earth sciences (Modern Earth Sciences).   Includes full-motion video, still images (approximately 1800), and animation in eight units: five in geology, and one each in oceanography, meteorology and astronomy.

Postdoctoral Fellow - Dept. of Geological Sciences, University of Texas at Austin, 9/93 to 12/96.

Projects include (1) an integrated field, petrologic, geochronologic and isotopic study to evaluate the tectonic evolution of Mesoproterozoic rocks of the Llano uplift, central Texas.   Included the informal supervision of one M.A. student and one senior-level honors research project, and (2) Sm-Nd and Pb isotopic characterization of Paleoproterozoic rocks of the Shackleton Range, Antarctica.

Instructor - Dept. of Geological Sciences, University of Texas at Austin, summers of 1993 to 1996.

Senior-level summer field geology course.   Course involved geologic mapping of diverse lithologies in Montana, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico, construction of stratigraphic columns and cross-sections, stereonet interpretations and report writing.   Included project development and staff supervision.
