I agree with you. The phonological system of any language is one third of
the total. There is phonology, morphology and semology. The three work
together in a system. Reading operates in this system and to say that one is
better than the other , is taking a part out of its' context and doing away
with the relationship between these three components.

Also, Thigh/Thy and Thistledew and This'll do are also semantic
differences. I think identifying phonemes is important to distinguish
sounds but reading doesn't obviously stop there. I do,however,still
defend my position that all parts work together.......
