The cover was created by gridding 5,392 elevation points. Many points originated from structure contour lines obtained digitally from West Virgina. In Virginia, data were searched from the StratiFact database created from the National Coal Resource Data System (NCRDS). Data from specific quadrangles in the StratiFact database from the West Virginia Geological and Economic Survey were also searched. The grid was created in Earthvision, was contoured and imported to ARC/INFO as polygons using an AML. Purpose: The purpose of PP 1625-C is to release the interpretation of assessment and modeling data for the the top-producing coal beds in the northern and central Appalachian Basin coal region. The data for the Pocahontas No. 3 coal bed was used with the permission and through the cooperation of coal geologists (primary contacts listed) at the West Virginia Geological and Economic Survey (B. M. Blake, Jr.) and the Virginia Division of Mineral Resources (J. Nolde). Data_Quality_Information: Attribute_Accuracy: Attribute_Accuracy_Report: Deductive_Estimate: The range of the input data was from -641 to 2873 feet, msl, with a mean of 1470 ft and a standard deviation of 691 ft. The grid from which these contours were obtained had a mean of 823 ft and a standard deviation of 1692, with an average z error of 0.35 ft. Limited manual editing attempted to resolve minor differences between borehole data and elevation structure maps. In areas of sparse data, the coverages will not reflect ground truth. Logical_Consistency_Report: This data set does not contain dangles or redundant arcs. Completeness_Report: Input points were irregularly distributed over the spatial extent of the study area. Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report: Locations of the input points used to create this cover are estimated to be accurately located within 1/4 mile. Vertical_Positional_Accuracy: Vertical_Positional_Accuracy_Report: The raw input data represent elevation measurements that are believed to be accurate within 50 feet. The elevations represent a calculation, i.e. subtraction of the depth of the Pocahontas No. 3 coal from the surface (topographic elevation) of the drillhole. Surface elevations of the drillholes in the database were not compared to any paper or digital reference.
