The Gerontological Society of America (GSA) was founded in 1945 to promote the scientific study of aging, to encourage exchanges among researchers, educators and practitioners and to foster the use of gerontological research in forming public policy. The Society's current programs include five research publications: Journal of Gerontology: Biological Sciences; Journal of Gerontology: Medical Sciences; Journal of Gerontology: Psychological Sciences; Journal of Gerontology: Social Sciences and The Gerontologist. The Society also holds the premier annual scientific meeting on aging. The Society also includes two units: the National Academy on an Aging Society (a policy institute that conducts policy analysis and organizes conferences and seminars), and an educational unit, the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE) (a network of more than 300 institutions of higher education).
Publications
Society publications include five peer-reviewed research journals, a monthly newsletter, monographs, and papers. Serial publications: Journals of Gerontology: Series A: Biological/Medical Sciences (2 journals under one cover-monthly); Journals of Gerontology Series B: Psychological/Social Sciences (2 journals under one cover) bimonthly. These journals contain reports on original research. The Gerontologist (journal) is bimonthly--articles on applied research and policy, practice concepts, and book reviews.
