Schoolcraft County is a very large county with the largest "city" being that of Manistique. Most of the county is rural and wilderness-like. Residents of the county must travel long distances for medical care in most cases.

The MRC has 15 active members and works in a coordinated effort with the CERT unit to boost response numbers to 30. The Schoolcraft County MRC has been fairly active in community events, providing medical coverage and support that would otherwise be lacking. During a recent visit by the Vietnam Moving Wall, the MRC provided valuable first aid services to the Wall visitors and volunteers. The Schoolcraft County MRC actively trains side-by-side with the Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital Decontamination Team. MRC volunteers are learning how to care for chemically contaminated patients. The MRC unit is working diligently to get search and rescue services reinstated in the county. The MRC will be sponsoring and assisting with a wilderness search and rescue training program that is specifically tailored for medical response personnel. The Schoolcraft MRC was instrumental in a hospital evacuation exercise-establishing an Alternate Care Center (ACC) at a nearby school for the care of the evacuated patients.
