Improved Method for Land Mine Detection

Problem: Develop more reliable method for detection of buried metal and non-metal mines and unexploded ordnance

Project Activity Scope (from Technical Overview Chart): Measurement and Analysis Method Development through Measurement and Analysis System Applications

PNNL Solution:

  • Conducted lab tests using simulated mines and holographic ground-penetrating radar equipment
  • Demonstrated superior detection feasibility using holographic imaging data analysis

Capabilities Employed to Meet Client Needs: Adapted laboratory radar scanning systems for performance evaluation; advanced holographic data reduction algorithm and software development to provide representative visual image of buried objects; indoor lab testing using soil testbed in EDL radar facility; test data analysis.
