(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Representative Rick Boucher announced today that, at his urging, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is providing a federal grant in the amount of $188,803 to the Glade Spring Volunteer Fire Department in Washington County. "This provision of federal funding will enable the purchase of a new firefighting vehicle for the Glade Spring Volunteer Fire Department which will enable the Department to provide better fire protection to its service area," Boucher said.

The federal funding which is being announced today will be used to purchase a new 2,000 gallon tanker truck. The new fire vehicle will replace a 1,000 gallon tanker truck currently in use by the Department.

"I am pleased that the Department of Homeland Security has honored my request and is providing this grant to the Glade Spring Volunteer Fire Department. It is important to ensure the safety of our firefighters by providing the best equipment and training possible. This is a necessary step in protecting the people who protect us," Boucher said.
