Cost and Performance Analysis of Biomass-Based Integrated Gasification Combined-Cycle (BIGCC) Power Systems |
Project ID: |
106 |
Principal Investigator: |
Margaret Mann |
Brief Description: |
This project examines the cost and performance potential of three biomass-based integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) systems--high-pressure air blown, low-pressure air blown, and low-pressure indirectly heated. |
Purpose
Examine the cost and performance potential of three biomass-based integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) systems - a high pressure air-blown, a low pressure indirectly heated, and a low pressure air-blown.

Category: |
Energy Infrastructure |
Methodology/Approach: |
Detailed ASPEN process simulations of the systems were developed, and results were used to design, size, and cost the major plant equipment sections. Numerous literature references and previous biomass and coal studies were used to develop overall plant cost information. Standard economic analyses were performed to determine the levelized cost of electricity produced by each system. Additionally, alternative design and operating conditions were tested to optimize the efficiency and reduce the cost of electricity. |
