Baiges DL, Luque ML, Deluchi GJ, Petroni A, Bote MA, Alonso BS, Benetucci J; International Conference on AIDS.

Int Conf AIDS. 1998; 12: 39 (abstract no. 12140).

LABCEN HTAL Muniz, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

AIMS: To relate CD38/8. CV levels, CD4 counts and clinical status in patients with and without treatment. PATIENTS AND METHODS: RT PCR were used to establish CV levels. (Amplicor HIV-1 Monitor-Roche diagnostica) CD4 and CD38/8 markers were determined through flow cytometry (Ortho Diagnostic Systems) 22 healthy patients and 12 infected patients who were HIV-negative with TBC., were enrolled as control patients. The whole population to be studied was made up of 98 patients (29 female and 69 male). 82 patients had only one CV and CD38/8. RESULTS: 16 patients had coupled samples that revealed a 63% agreement between CV and CD38/8. Such a finding shows either the increase and decrease of both or their lack variation. TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME CONCLUSIONS: A significant difference was observed in the medians of CD38/8 between controls and patients p < 0.001. Good correlation was observed between CD38/8 and CV, and between CD38/8 and CD4. As to the clinical status and CD38/8, the difference becomes significant when grouping A1-B2 and B3-C3.37% of the coupled samples that did not show correlation, due to the fact that CD38/8 can be affected by other factors such as concomitant infections, will be the aim of further individual studies.
