Human Resources goes Hawaiian

August 12, 2005

The Human Resources (HR) Division held its annual staff picnic at Urban Park with a luau for all HR employees. The event featured food, fun and festivities. HR staff members danced to the Hukilau song, inspired by an old Hawaiian way of fishing in which a very long net is cast from shore to be later hauled in by a large group of people. The Hukilau dancers are, from left to right, Bonnie Martinez, Reyna Sandoval, Art Lopez, Valarie Lopez and Bob Gilbert, watched by Gilbert Ratliff, far right, whose daughters taught the dance (inset photo). In addition to upholding an annual tradition, the festivities also were a way for the division to celebrate the successful Labwide release of the Enterprise Project's Oracle-based human resources system management module.
