The selection of high-resolution elevation data has been confusing and costly to our State and local partners. This project will compare Lidar, IFSAR, and photogrammetric technologies by land cover type to document which dataset will produce the best results for the automated extraction and generation of structures, transportation, hydrographic, and hypsographic contour overlays. The project will also explore the potential for merging elevation data types to economize data-acquisition costs. The purpose of this study is to provide guidance for our partners and The National Map implementations for choosing the most suitable elevation data specific to land cover type.

Partnerships are making The National Map a success in the Western Region
