Dear Sirs:

I am writing about your rules regarding a manufacturer’s claim that a product is “Made in the USA.”

For years I have heard that “Made in the USA” doesn’t really mean what it says. “Paranoid fringe,” I thought. But no! Now I read in the papers that not only does “Made in the USA” actually mean “75% made in the USA,” but that the FTC is considering changing the definition of “Made in the USA” to mean “50% nude in the USA!”

That’s making false advertising legal.

If a product is 75% or 50% made in the USA, then the manufacturer should have the privilege of stating so. But it is lying to say that such a product is “Made in the USA.”

The FTC should not make it legal to lie about where a product is made.

Sincerely,

Mercedes Brugh
