SALEM, Ore. -- The Vernonia Disaster Recovery Center operated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will remain open until further notice, but representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will leave as of close of business today, Feb. 22.
The Disaster Recovery Center continues to operate in the Vernonia City Hall, 1001 Bridge Street, Vernonia, OR, 97064, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
Disaster-affected residents in Vernonia are urged to visit the Center to get answers to questions about FEMA applications or receive information about other state and federal programs. Experts also are available to discuss flood insurance and the new draft flood hazard map for the City of Vernonia.
FEMA and the SBA work closely together during disasters. The SBA provides federal disaster loans for homeowners, renters, and businesses of all sizes. So far, SBA has approved nearly $10.4 million in low-interest disaster loans to Oregon residents and businesses hurt by the severe storms and flooding. Individuals and business owners may obtain SBA information by calling toll-free (800) 659-2955 or by visiting SBA's website at www.sba.gov/services/disasterassistance.
Anyone not able to visit the Disaster Recovery Center should call FEMA's helpline at (800) 621-3362, or go online to www.fema.gov to update their information or ask about their applications.
FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
