Commissioner Breaks Ground for Aviation Training Center
(08/25/2006)U.S Customs and Border Protection Commissioner W. Ralph Basham, joined by state and federal officials, broke ground Friday on a new aviation training center at the Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City.“This is a great day for CBP and CBP Air,” Commissioner Basham told the gathering. “This facility will be critical to the success of our mission.”The $20-million construction project will provide a new 67,500-square-foot hangar facility to support the National Air Training Center-Oklahoma City, expanding flight training and maintenance operations.CBP Air and Marine Assistant Commissioner Michael C. Kostelnik, Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry and Rep. Ernest Istook joined Commissioner Basham at the ceremony and also during a tour of the existing training center. Currently 250 CBP employees attend aviation-related training at the center each year. The center is staffed by 36 CBP employees assisted by 29 contractors. “We are proud to be working with Customs and Border Protection on such an important task,” Oklahoma Gov. Henry said. “This is the continuation of a proud partnership.”Rep. Istook said that Oklahomans and all Americans appreciate the contributions of CBP personnel. “Thank you…. You’re protecting our homes, our families and our way of life.”The construction contract has been awarded to the Korte Construction Company of St. Louis. The 67,500-square-foot facility is scheduled to open in October 2007. |
