Reception
On Tuesday evening, June 03 2003, there will be a wellcome reception
at 5:30 pm
at Kennedy Lounge, Bogazici University.
Kennedy Lounge is in walking distance from Turgut Noyan conference
room and has the best scenic view of Bosphorus in Istanbul.
The welcome reception is open to all participants. There
will be plenty of food and drinks. Hope to see you all there...:
Site Visits
Site Visit I: Wednesday afternoon, June 4 2003
Depart from the hotel for a half day sightseeing tour
including following visits; the Hippodrome area,
the remnant of an arena built in the reign of Septimus Severus.
From here proceed to the 17th century Blue Mosque, so called
due to its more than 20,000 blue Iznik tiles that adorn the
interior walls. Then get ready to discover the Topkapi Palace,
the residence of the Ottoman Sultans from 15th to 19th centuries.
At the end of the tour visit the world famous Grand Bazaar
area and then return to your hotel.
Cost: $25/person for non-Turkish and $10/person for Turkish residence,
which includes Government licensed English speaking guide,
all entrance fees (which are higher for non-Turkish residence
and reflected in the tour price), A/C transportation.
Site Visit II: Saturday afternoon, June 6 2003
Depart from the hotel for a half day sightseeing tour
including following visits ; Küçük Ayasofya Mosque - formerly
the church of Sergius and Bacchus, a beautiful surviving
Byzantine church built by the Emperor Justinian.
Then drive up to to St. Sophia, which was Christendom's
greatest church built by the emperor Justinian,
a masterpiece of Byzantine architecture.
From here cross to the Underground Basilica Cistern,
a mystic atmosphere carried by 336 columns. After
finishing the tour drive back to your hotel.
Cost: $25/person for non-Turkish and $12/person for Turkish residence,
which includes, government licensed
English speaking guide, all entrance fees, A/C transportation.
Site Visit III: Sunday full day, June 8 2003
In the morning depart from the hotel for a full day
sightseeing tour including following visits ;
drive along the Theodosius City Walls and arrive
at Kariye district for visiting the museum of
St. Saviour Church in Chora. See the well preserved
mosaics and frescoes depicting scences from the Bible.
After continue to the Mosque of Süleyman the Magnificent,
built by the famous architect Sinan. Then drive to Turkish
and Islamic Arts Museum, that was awarded as museum of
the year by the Euopean Council.
Transfer back to your hotel after the tour.
Cost: $44/person for non-Turkish and $20/person for Turkish
residence, which includes Lunch, Government Licensed
English Speaking Guide, All Entrance Fees, A/C Transportation.
Conference Dinner
On Thursday evening, June 6 2002, there will be a Bosphorus boat tour
and dinner buffet with unlimited drink (including Turkish Raki!)
(which costs approximately $25/person).
