Federal Trade Commission Received Documents Jan 22 1996 B18354900077 Secretary Joseph M. Hart 6860 Merwood Street Worthington, Ohio 43235 Jan. 18, 1996 Office of the Secretary Federal Trade Commission Room 159 Washington, D.C. 20580 Re: Made in the USA To Whom It May Concern, I approach this subject with extremely deep feelings and emotions. The globalists and internationalists certainly have ignored what is good for the United States. Allowing for instance Honda or Toyota or whomever to lay claim to an American made label is simply ludicrous. Buying parts etc. for another Japanese owned company operating in the U.S. skirts the issue. Perhaps all consumer goods should be required to bear the flag - highly visible - of the country of the owners or of origin. The transplants of consumer products try to cloak themselves in the mantle of American values and culture. If our consumers are so bent on spending their money with nations that have used and abused us and it is not just Japan, then they should not object to having more than a VIN or other mark that will identify their car, TV, computer, garment, etc. Current labeling is a joke. Consumers have little loyalty or patriotic feeling when they spend their money. Appropriate labeling may cause them to think more appropriately and correctly about what they are doing. I do not want to live in a country who's claim in the year 2000+ is that we make the best pizzas in the world. We are the world's biggest consumer. Lets try to return to be the world's leaders in real job formation. Maybe people will stop and think if they see the Korean, German, Japanese, French, etc. flag on what they are going to buy not some obscure label about "domestically produced materials assembled in ??? by ???"
