Research Project: EVALUATION AND COMPARISON OF BIOFUNGICIDES AND FUNGICIDES FOR THE CONTROL OF POST HARVEST POTATO TUBER DISEASES Project Number: 0500-00042-001-78
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: Mar 16, 2006
End Date: Mar 15, 2007

Objective:
Evaluate the efficacy of biofungicides for the control of potato storage pathogens under post-harvest storage conditions. Evaluate several chemcial fungicides for their effectiveness under storage conditions as comparison.

Approach:
Inoculate potato tubers with five of the most common and important storage pathogens of potato. Wound tubers. Apply solutions of pathogens. Treat tubers with Serenade, Sonata, Amistar, Zoxium, Phostrol and Oxidate. Incubate potato tubers for 2 months. Cut open and determine the number of tubers with symptoms or signs of the individual pathogens to determine incidence of disease. Severity of individual diseases in tubers will be estimated by subjective determination of the volume of tissue of individual tubers affected by the different pathogens using a computerized image analysis technique. Standard statistical analyses will be used to analyze the data.
