It is said that the term "Green Room" originated during Shakespeare's time when his plays were performed in the Globe Theatre in London.  Actors waiting to go on stage stayed outside under the trees - or "In the Green" - thus the term "Green Room".  In today's Green Room, participants can relax before they appear in a program and also where they have their makeup done.
