Dear Mr. Zwick,
As an American citizen and a military spouse, I am furious to learn that the
partners and family members of the gay and lesbian victims of the tragedies
of Sept. 11 will not be entitled to the same benefits as others. This is
particularly disheartening when gays and lesbians figure prominently among
the heroes of that awful day, including   , who helped bring down
the flight in Pennsylvania;   .   , who died in the line of duty when the
first tower fell; and   , who was   of the plane that
crashed into the   .
When the tragedies of September 11 are used - occasionally even exploited -
as a rallying cry for unity among all Americans, I find it sad and decidedly
"un-American" that some of the loved ones of those who acted most valiantly
to save the lives of others would be excluded or slighted in the effort to
provide relief. I find this particularly upsetting when I hear that even
unborn fetuses and the families of illegal aliens will be entitled to full
benefits, while the families of many full-fledged citizens in good standing
will not. This is wrong. If we are providing benefits for ALL, then let us
truly provide them for ALL.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
Very sincerely,
