Quality Assurance/Quality Control

Quality Assurance Program

The Materials Testing Laboratory (MTL) is committed to a strong quality assurance (QA) program. Personnel at the MTL understand that serious deficiencies may occur in laboratory operations when attention to quality work is slighted or ignored. Controlling and ensuring the quality of this operation's results is the responsibility of the entire staff. It requires the ongoing dedication of management and the support, understanding and commitment by the staff to QA implementation and practices.

Routinely all QA functions performed by the technical staff are monitored and audited by an independent QA unit (QAU). The QAU periodically conducts facility audits examining facility records, standard operating procedures, equipment maintenance and calibration, documentation procedures, personnel training, and overall organizational compliance with QC-1 criteria and applicable QA plans.

Document Control and Records Retention

The MTL has a formal system to control and retain all documents. A system is in place to approve, revise and distribute all process control documents, such as SOPs, test methods, test protocols, Hazard Control Plans, etc. This system assures that personnel are following approved, up to date procedures, and provides a history of changes to those procedures. Procedures are in place to control and retain laboratory notebooks and laboratory generated data.
