Andrews Awards Service AcademyNominations to Nineteen Students |
SEWELL, NJ— Today Congressman Rob Andrews (D-Haddon Heights) awarded
nineteen students the honor of representing the First Congressional District
of New Jersey in the country's four military service academies.
"The nation's military academies are an integral facet of the strength of our military by serving as an incubator for the future commanders of each branch of the military," said Andrews. "It is my distinct pleasure to nominate these outstanding young men and women who have, in every respect, surpassed their peers to be here today and will in no doubt continue to represent the First Congressional District and their country with pride and excellence." The following students have been nominated to: United States Naval Academy Barikian, Michael R. Sterling High School
United States Military Academy Balansama, Koroma D. Woodbury High School
United States Air Force Academy Harris, Eric M. Moorestown Friends School
United States Merchant Marine Academy Grebb, Nathanial R. Woodbury High School
The students were selected by Congressman Andrews' nominating committee: William Bailey, retired FBI agent; Rita Giosa, R.N.; Barbara Hawkins, Tech Sergeant for Air National Guard of the Air Force; Bernie Moran, Philadelphia Naval Shipyard; Claire Poole, Union Official with CWA-Local 1084; General Preston Taylor, Adjutant General, NJ National Guard, Ret.; Chief Frank Winters, Chief of Police, Clayton, NJ;Col. Jerald M. Cobb, US Army Reserve-US Military Academy Admissions Liason; Lt. Col Marty O'Shaughnessy, Liaison for United States Military Academy; and William Depue, US Naval Academy Information Officer. Nominations by the committee were made on the basis of superior academic achievement, extra-curricular activities and their interview with the committee.
