Effects of Shear Flow and Thermal Gradients

Objectives

  1. To develop a realistic computer program that employs appropriate models for interface and interphase characterization and prediction as related to multi-phase polymer processing under shear flow and thermal gradients
    • to measure parameters needed for input into the models
    • to make predictions based on the models, and establish characterization protocols for successive iterations, refinement, and verification of the individual models and program predictions
  2. To develop characterization techniques and procedures for evaluating the interphase structure and its formation during the processing of a polymer paint/coating on a structured substrate surface formed by a process described in (1).
  3. To develop protocols for interactive optimization of multi-phase polymer processing (1) and coating processing (2)
