WASHINGTON, July 17, l998--The owner and three employees of a meat plant in Gardners, Pa., were sentenced and fined for violating the Federal Meat Inspection Act, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service said today.
Lee H. Himes, owner of Allen Mills Fresh Meats, was sentenced on one felony count, fined $1,000, ordered to pay a special assessment of $100, and placed on probation for a term of five years for conspiracy to commit offenses in violation of the FMIA.
Bradley Lockwood, meat cutter, was sentenced on two misdemeanor counts, fined $550, and placed on probation for a term of three years for each count to be served concurrently.
Joseph E. Alderton and Robert A. Palmer, meat cutters, were each sentenced on two misdemeanor counts, fined $550, and placed on probation for two years for each count to be served concurrently.
Each meat cutter violated the FMIA for allowing uninspected cattle and swine to enter a Federally inspected meat slaughtering facility, and for slaughtering and preparing cattle and swine not in compliance with the FMIA.
Sentencing took place in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh, before U.S. Judge Donald J. Lee, on May 1.
