Today in the Senate

February 23, 2009:

The Senate will convene at 2:00 p.m. and proceed to the reading of Washington's farewell address. Following the reading, the Senate will resume consideration of the motion to proceed to S. 160, the District of Columbia House Voting Rights Act of 2009.

The next vote will occur at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24th on the motion to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to S. 160.

Tim & Barb Johnson Announce Birth of Third Grandchild

Washington, DC— U.S. Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) and his wife Barbara proudly announced the birth of their third grandchild, Cooper Jay Johnson, who was born on Tuesday, November 22.

Cooper was born to the Senator's second eldest son Brendan Johnson and his wife Dr. Jana Johnson, who live in Sioux Falls. Brendan is an attorney, and Jana is a dermatologist at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Both mother and child are happy and healthy. This is Brendan and Jana's second child and the Johnsons' third grandchild.

"Barb and I are blessed to have three healthy young grandsons. We were so excited to hear the good news last night and can't wait to see the new baby. Our family certainly has much to be thankful for this year," said Johnson.

Tim and Barb are currently spending the Thanksgiving holiday with their oldest son Brooks and his family, which also includes a newborn son. On November 7, Brooks and his wife Naida celebrated the birth of their first son, Arijus Timothy Johnson, or Ari for short. Brooks is a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army, currently working as a recruiter in Dixon, Illinois.
