Congressman Henry Cuellar Announces
 $18,297 for Comal County

Washington, DC- Today, Congressman Henry Cuellar announced $18,297 for Comal County from the Department of Justice.  These funds were made available under the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program.
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program provides funds to state and local governments to support activities that prevent and control crime and improve the criminal justice system.

Comal County will use the JAG funds to purchase computer systems and technology to enhance their abilities to proactively deter crime.  The new technology will enhance deputies’ current ability to access databases that include intelligence, personal information, vehicle information and wanted person information, which will directly affect how Comal County fights crime.

Congressman Cuellar noted, “It is important that we provide our local communities with the resources they need to fight crime.  The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program does just that.  Giving our law enforcement officials access to these important databases will allow them to serve New Braunfels and the larger Comal County community.”
New Braunfels City Police Department will use a portion of these funds to purchase tactical gear and equipment that will be used by the new emergency response team.  Specifically, headsets that allow two-way communication for use in high or low noise areas will be purchased.  The new headsets will allow the emergency response team to communicate without interference and interface with other communication channels when necessary.

“This could not have happened without the assistance from Congressman Henry Cuellar.  Congressman Cuellar has been a tremendous asset for Comal County and we are sorry to lose his representation due to the redistricting process,” stated County Judge Danny Scheel.

Congressman Henry Cuellar is a member of the House Budget and Agriculture Committees in the 109th Congress; accessibility to constituents, education, health care and economic development are his priorities.
