Congressman Henry Cuellar Announces $226,829 for Comal Independent School District

Washington, DC- Today, Congressman Henry Cuellar announced that the Comal Independent School District was awarded $226,829.94 from the Universal Service Administrative Company, a program administered by the Federal Communications Commission.

The money will provide financial support for telecommunications services in schools across the United States.  Comal ISD will use the funds to update technology and internet service throughout the school.

“Without the new technology of the 21st century, students lose out on entire world of knowledge. It is extremely important that all school districts have new technology such as internet access, and this program ensures that Comal ISD will have the tools necessary to educate our students so they may succeed in life and realize their dreams.” Congressman Cuellar noted.

The funds were obtained through the School and Libraries program of the Universal Service Administrative Company, which is maintained through contributions made by telecommunications providers across the country and extends discounts to assist most schools and libraries in the United States to obtain affordable telecommunications and Internet access.

Dr. Marc Walker, Superintendent of Comal ISD said, “Without e-rate funding Comal ISD wouldn’t be where it is today with the advanced telecommunications and data infrastructure currently in place.  The new funds will allow us to continue to improve that infrastructure throughout our 589-square mile district and 16 schools.”

Congressman Henry Cuellar is a member of the House Budget and Agriculture Committees in the 109th Congress; accessibility to constituents, education, health care and economic development are his priorities.
