Description/Abstract Coal production is insignificant in Morocco.^Thus, practically all coal used in the power generation sector must be imported.^The main fuel sources for power generation are coal, hydroelectricity, petroleum and gas, renewables also show some potential.^The present policy is to develop national energy sources, particularly hydroelectricity and coal, and to diversify imports.^Some movement towards coal consumption has been made since the two oil shocks.^Coal utilisation policy on imports is in the process of being reformed under the care of SOCOCHARBO, the Moroccan coal industry society.^The quantity of imports for power generation is likely to continue increasing.
