FDA Commissioner Dockets Management Branch (HFA 305) Food and Drug Administration 5630 Fisher's Lane, rm. 1061 Rockville, MD 20852 RE: Docket No. 00N-1396, and 00D-1598 Dear FDA, I fully support the approval of genetically engineered (GE)foods. Please fast track this important issue so that consumers can begin to reap the benefits of such technology. Despite the scare tactics of overzealous consumer groups, these foods are greatly needed and represent a tremendous human advancement. The opponents of these foods don't have one single shred of evidence to support any of their claims. Instead they say these foods "could" cause allergic reactions, "could" have lower nutritional values, etc. It is precisely this rhetoric that ruins the validity of public opinion polls on these matters. People think this stuff is bad for you, when there is no evidence whatsoever to indicate that. The rules requiring notificaiton are sufficient. In our marketplace, consumers should be allowed to have the final say on what is good for them. If there is no demand for these products, they will go away. But, people will find, they are needed and useful and should be allowed to be introduced. Sincerely, Mark E.
