- Our Mission & Philosophy: The Library's goal is to use MARCXML as a container and MARC as a "profile" to store disparate vendor metadata for uniform transformation, storage, and exchange while retaining the granularity of the original data.
MARC tags and fields are used as closely as possible within the standard, however since we are dealing with individual records as concepts -- rather than discrete physical cataloging items -- some blurring may occur.
Generally, we keep all original vendor metadata in the theory that we can return to the original raw format from the MARCXML (rebuildability).
Whenever practical, we use existing standards within the MARC records
