Eugene Meads died at his home in this city on the morning of September 9, 1940, after over 40 years of Bureau service. He was born at Washington, D.C., October 19, 1876, where he attended public schools, and received the degree of B.C.S. in the Southeastern School of Accountancy.

He entered the service of this Bureau on June 15, 1900, in the office of what was then known as the Drawing and Engraving Section, where he served until May 13, 1918, to become Chief of the Section of Supplies and Shipments. At the beginning of the January of this year he was promoted to administrative assistant, as Chief of the Sales Section, which position he held until his death.

Mr. Meads was a Baptist and was for many years engaged in numerous Masonic activities. He was also a member of Phi Sigma Kappa. He will always be remembered for his conscientious attention to duty and for his kindliness….
