Optical Transceiver Units Delivered

Low cost, OC-192 short-haul transceiver units have been delivered to EMCORE’s customer for evaluation.

"Preliminary feedback is that the units exceed expectations."

The Sandia team has now shifted into an advisory mode on this effort as EMCORE works to ramp up volume production.

Transponder

Winner of the 2002 R&D100 Award

Sandia has partnered with EMCORE to co-develop a low cost 10 gigabit / second, OC-192 transponder for internet routers using Microsystem-based transceiver units.

The transceivers perform electrical-to-optical and optical-to-electrical data conversion.

The transponder provides error correction, channel protection, and a channel de-skew that is transparent to the user.
